From the cradle to the coffin, the procurement, preparation, and consumption of food is a major concern… …and the importance of good food should not be taken lightly. Proper nutrition is not just for the health faddist, but for everyone. It is a great asset in the prevention and management of disease. Chiropractic teaches that preventive health care is the only answer to continuing good health for all. Despite advances in technological knowledge and the millions of dollars spent on medical research programs, we are flabby and overweight; we can’t sleep; we can’t get going when we are awake. We have neuroses; we have high blood pressure. Coronary disease at the peak of life has hit epidemic proportions. WE ARE ONE OF THE WEALTHIEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD – YET WE ARE ALSO ONE OF THE UNHEALTHIEST. What can you do to help yourself? Follow a sensible diet based on the elements of good nutrition. What is nutrition? It is the process by which your body takes in and converts the food you eat into energy and living tissue. Good nutrition is essential to your body’s proper functioning and growth. And it begins with good eating habits. When you look into the subject of nutrition, you discover many schools of thought. They differ in some areas but generally have these factors in common. To build good health, eliminate junk foods, preservatives, and refined foods and eat high-quality natural foods. Fresh fruits and vegetables (preferably raw or cooked until just tender with as little water as possible), fresh juices, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and high-quality protein head the list. Use a moderate amount of fats and oils. Limit intake of coffee, tea, sugar, and colas. Limit alcohol to moderate amounts and special occasions. These guidelines are easy to follow because you don’t have to give up much at all. I’ve attached a pamphlet that you might want to share with friends as well. Start today to develop good nutritional habits. Your continuing good health may depend on it. |
